No problem, Have found it to be very stable and successful. The RSS video links to Ted talks are a particularly good introduction to video and have been great for our teachers.

Thanks for you post about Democracy Player.
We're really excited about it being a tool for teachers. I mean really who needs neat, free stuff more than teachers?
Just to let you know we're just about ready to launch with our new name Miro [getmiro.com], and it would be great to hear what everyone thinks about the new version when it comes out.

[...] Time to bid adieu to our friends Pun and Banter. It is time to get serious, for our blogger friends in Iran have nothing much to joke about. This is thanks mainly to the Iranian governments drive to identify bloggers to put a leash on them. It has been made mandatory for bloggers to register there personal details online with the authorities. All those who fail to comply will have there blogs blocked. So, freedom of expression, a fundamental perquisite in most free countries, is being recklessly sequestered away from the Iranian bloggers. “You might think that’s only going to inconvenience a few people - but you’d be wrong: Iran has nearly a million bloggers, around 10% of whom are active, according to Mehdi Boutorabi, manager of the Persianblog free blog hosting service.” [ source] “Want to start a blog in Iran? Then you’ll have to register it with the government - which has recently begun to require that all bloggers register at samandehi.ir, a site established by the ministry of culture of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s government. “[ source] [...]

Unbelievable!!!

How lucky are we to have such freedom (that we just take for granted) to express ourselves and our thoughts/opinions!

I agree that the web 2.0 tools are the future of education, but you need partners and you need to collaborate. We use del.icio.us and netvibes we also use skrbl the online whiteboard to work through ideas, check out my blog and see if there is anything there that you would like to pick up on, if so mail me and lets get our students collaborating. Long live the revolution!

I agree: learning how to learn, constantly (no matter the technology) is going to be critical for all the current generation.

Thank you so much for this post: I have been thinking for a while about the prospect of harnessing the power of those freeware office applications.

For so long we have been conditioned to the fact that we MUST have "Word" or "Excel" or "PowerPoint" to be able to produce documents of a professional nature.

Recently, I have become conscious of the fact that our students are working in these programmes at school and many don't have them at home. This limits the transferable nature of say, sending home a CD of a PowerPoint show the child has completed. Web 2.0 and open source programmes to the rescue I say, it's all about finding what's out there and using the best tools available.

Fancy that, $33 million on software! Imagine the hardware we could get into our classrooms with that much money!

Kind regards, Rachel

PS - Loving your blog... keep up the brilliant posts :)
